Nonadditive Conditional Entropy and Its Significance for Local Realism
Based on the form invariance of the structures given by Khinchin’s axiomatic foundations of information theory and the pseudoadditivity of the Tsallis entropy indexed by q , the concept of conditional entropy is generalized to the case of nonadditive (nonextensive) composite systems. The proposed nonadditive conditional entropy is classically nonnegative but can be negative in the quantum conte...
متن کامل21 Realism / Anti - Realism
The main realism/anti-realism issue in the philosophy of science is the issue of scientific realism, concerned with the unobservable entities of science. However, there is also a more general issue, often known as “realism about the external world,” concerned primarily with the observable entities of common sense, but which spreads to scientific entities, both observable and unobservable. The i...
متن کاملAnalysis of Bell-Type Experiments and Its Local Realism
We investigate the violation factor of the original Bell-Mermin inequality. Until now, we have used an assumption that the results of measurement are ±1. In this case, the maximum violation factor is as follows: ( ) ( ) −2 2 2 = even n n and ( ) ( ) −1 2 2 = odd n n . The quantum predictions by n-partite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state violate the Bell-Mermin inequality by an amount that grow...
متن کاملMetaphysics of Logical Realism
Moral Realism, Skepticism and Anti-realism: a Critical Analysis of the Criteria for Moral Realism
Despite the fact that realism has long been the dominant outlook in science, ethical realism has been thought to be especially problematic. Even the most steadfast realists in other fields have questioned the existence of moral truths. It seems that the would be moral realist has his work cut out for him. The first step necessary for any defense of moral realism will be the identification of th...
متن کاملThe Semantic Realism/Anti-Realism Dispute and Knowledge of Meanings
Here the relationship between understanding and knowledge of meaning is discussed from two different perspectives: that of Dummettian semantic anti-realism and that of the semantic externalism of Putnam and others. The question addressed is whether or not the truth of semantic externalism would undermine a central premise in one of Dummetts key arguments for anti-realism, insofar as Dummetts pr...
